‘The French Connection’ - A masterpiece with Gene Hackman, Fernando Rey and Roy Scheider in it. I really love this kind of films and how dirty New York looked in the 70’s
‘Isolation’ - A little and nice b-horror movie
‘La Cabina (aka ‘The Telephone Box’, 1972)’ - A Spanish cult classic (it won an Emmy). It’s a TV horror movie/short feature with minimal dialogue (you don’t need to know Spanish: everybody can understand what’s going on) about a man who gets trapped inside a telephone box and nobody is able to free him. He is helpless. And then…
Many people watched this short when they were kids and they’re shocked and terrified to death (view all the positive comments here). And what’s better, it STILL terrifies. The situation is weird (sometimes even darkly funny), the horror is subtle and the story is open to a lot of interpretations which feel up-to date even nowadays (Kafka-esque horror story, a harsh criticism about the selfish society and their lack of solidarity, the Spanish dictatorship or the lack of communication…). If you haven’t seen it yet, give it a chance: it’ll surprise you.
